You Got the Mortgage. Now Let’s Cover What Happens Next.
A note from Carmen Costa, TCG Lending Centres & TCG Insurance
You just went through a mortgage application with us. Income statements, credit checks, a lender who wanted to know everything about your finances. It’s a lot of work to get approved.
Here’s a question almost nobody asks during that process: what happens to this mortgage if you can’t make the payment?
I own TCG Lending Centres and TCG Insurance. Same family, same office in Stoney Creek, same commitment to giving you a straight answer instead of a sales pitch. When my mortgage clients ask me this question, I send them to my insurance team. When they don’t ask, I bring it up anyway, because it’s the part of the plan most people finish their mortgage without ever looking at.
If Something Happens to You, Who Makes the Mortgage Payment?
A mortgage is a promise to pay, every month, for years. Life insurance is what keeps that promise if you’re not around to keep it yourself. Term life insurance can pay off your mortgage balance, or cover the payments long enough for your family to get their footing, without selling the house or changing their life around a loss.
Disability insurance covers the more common version of this problem. Most homeowners are far more likely to be unable to work for a stretch, because of an injury, surgery, or illness, than to pass away during their mortgage term. If your income stops and the mortgage doesn’t, disability insurance replaces enough of your paycheque to keep the house.
We work with homeowners across Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Ancaster, Burlington, and the rest of the Golden Horseshoe, and the math is the same everywhere: the mortgage is usually the biggest monthly obligation in the household. It deserves its own backup plan, separate from whatever coverage you might have through work.
If You Financed a Business, the Same Question Applies
If TCG Lending Centres helped you finance a commercial property, equipment, or a business loan, you’re carrying a second version of the same risk. Banks and lenders often ask for key-person insurance before they’ll approve business financing, and for good reason: if something happens to the person the business depends on, the loan doesn’t pause.
Key-person insurance protects the business if you, a partner, or another critical employee can’t work. Business loan protection is built specifically to cover an outstanding loan balance if the borrower dies or becomes disabled, so the debt doesn’t fall on a surviving partner, a spouse, or the business itself. For small business owners in Hamilton and across Ontario, this is often the difference between a business that survives a setback and one that doesn’t.
Once the Business Is Financed, Your Team Is Next
If you just took on a loan to grow, you’re probably also thinking about hiring, or keeping the people you already have. Group benefits, health, dental, drug, and vision coverage, along with retirement savings options, are one of the more affordable ways to compete for good employees without matching a big company’s salary. TCG Insurance builds group plans sized for small and growing Ontario businesses, not just large corporations, and shops multiple providers to keep the cost reasonable.
Why Talk to TCG Insurance Instead of Starting from Scratch Somewhere Else
You already went through the trust-building part with us. TCG Insurance is an independent brokerage, which means we compare coverage across multiple providers instead of pushing one company’s product, the same way TCG Lending Centres compares lenders instead of pushing one bank. There’s no cost to sit down and talk through what you actually need. If it turns out you don’t need anything right now, we’ll tell you that too.
